I got my postgraduate training in Medical Biochemistry and was awarded a certificate in Clinical Lipidology by the National Lipid Association in the United States. I have co-authored several publications in international journals mainly in lipid disorders. I actively contributed to the Familial Hypercholesterolemia Registry in MENA region. I participated in several projects and campaigns to raise awareness to certain lipid disorders and non-communicable diseases. I am currently the Laboratory director at Dasman Diabetes Institute and I am also faculty chair for the clinical biochemistry program in Kuwait. In addition, head of the lipid clinic in Amiri Hospital.

Dr. Anas Alyousef, BMBCh, FRCPC, is a consultant nephrologist and the head of the nephrology and dialysis centres at Amiri Hospital. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Kuwait University in 2002. He did his fellowship at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, and became Canadian board-certified in internal medicine in 2008, and nephrology in 2009. Dr. Alyousef is currently the president of Kuwait Nephrology Association.

Hani Sabbour is a consultant cardiologist at the Mediclinic Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. In addition to his clinical practice, he is also the Director of the internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship programs at the Al Ain Hospital, UAE.

Dr Sabbour specializes in cardiology and cardiac imaging, and has been at the forefront of complex cardiac care in the UAE. He has completed post-graduate training in various sub-specialties from the American Board of Internal Medicine, including Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology, Nuclear Cardiology, Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology, Cardiovascular Disease, and Internal Medicine. He was a clinical and research fellow on clinical cardiac electrophysiology at the Massachusetts General Hospital – Harvard Medical School. He received his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at the top of his class (Magna cum Laude) from the Faculty of Medicine, Kuwait University, before completing his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in cardiovascular disease and at The State University of New York Stony Brook – East Meadow Campus.

Dr Sabbour has made significant contributions to the advancement of cardiovascular care through his involvement as an investigator in numerous multicenter clinical trials. His clinical interests and expertise are in the management of arrhythmias and ablation of atrial fibrillation, chronic heart failure, pulmonary hypertension and adult congenital heart disease.

He received his medical education (MB ChB, 1991) at the University of Birmingham Medical School, his MD (2004) at the University of Sheffield, a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School and finally an MPhil in epidemiology (2007) from the University of Cambridge. His research involves lipids, diabetes and population health serving as global lead for trials and registries. He has >160,000 citations and since 2018 has been recognised by Clarivate Analytics as among the top 0.1% of authors in global medicine. In 2023 he was inducted as a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, which is UK’s highest honour for clinician scientists.

Dr. Nawal graduated from the Kuwait University School of Medicine in 2014. She completed her internship in Farwaniya hospital and then completed IM residency and Endocrinology fellowship in Vancouver, Canada at the University of British Columbia. She is currently working as an endocrinologist at Jaber Hospital with a special interest in pituitary and adrenal disease.

Dr. Nawal is a faculty member at Kuwait University, currently working as a clinical tutor. She is also the Kuwait Board of Internal Medicine (KBIM) Assistant Program Director for residents’ affairs. She is the Kuwait Board of Internal Medicine Residents’ Wellness Lead for the past two years, with a focus on struggling residents.

Dr. Mohammad Jamal is an Associate Professor of Surgery at Kuwait University and a consultant Metabolic, upper GI and HPB Surgeon. He graduated with first class honors from Aberdeen University where he was the top student in his class. He underwent his surgical residency at McGill University and obtained a fellowship in Hepatobiliary and transplant surgery. He then Underwent a second fellowship in Advanced laparoscopy, robotics and Bariatric surgery at the Cleveland Clinic main campus in Ohio Cleveland. Currently he is performing hepatobiliary and bariatric Surgery.

Dr. Jamal authored in more than 70 papers published in peer reviewed journals. He also authored many book chapters including a book chapter in the most read bariatric surgery book by Schauer et al. He won many prizes including the best resident teacher award for undergraduate education where he was voted by McGill University students for this award. His research in pancreatic surgery won him the best research award at the Canadian surgical association meeting in 2011. He was awarded as the best young researcher award by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advances of Sciences in 2023.

Dr. Jamal along with his colleague Dr. Husain Almahmeed performed the first liver transplant surgery in Kuwait. He also performed the first laparoscopic Whipple surgery in Kuwait in 2018 which was one of the firsts in the region. He along with Dr. Haytham Alkayyat also performed the first SADI procedure in 2015 in Kuwait. Following the performance of the first ever liver transplant in Kuwait he was awarded the pioneer in clinical care award by the Kuwait Surgical Association in 2019.
